Project Description

That Trembling Sun

Written by Renato Biribin, Jr.

Told in the first person by Guiseppe D’Angelo, this novel chronicles the fictional life and times of an Italian-American who tries to successfully integrate his family into American society in the 20th century. Guiseppe reveals the most memorable and tragic moments of his life from his mother’s death while in labor with her last son, the courtship of his wife in the early 1940’s, to his own service to America as an Army Ranger in World War II, as well as his familial conflicts during the Vietnam War.

Guiseppe’s journey parallels that of the Greatest Generation’s and it also gives a glimpse into the assimilation into American culture of the Italian immigrants who were once scorned and discriminated against when they arrived in droves in the late 19th and early 20th century.
